This view of the Plaza Mayor shows El Palacio Real in the background and behind the Palacio is the valley of the Manzanares river.  The Plaza Mayor is a lovely place to enjoy a cup of café con leche or some tapas and an ice cold Coca Cola with a twist of lemon.  In Spain, finger foods (called tapas) are a delicious way to grab a quick bite to eat, or to sit around and visit with friends while watching people stroll by.  Spaniards eat dinner very late (usually after 10 p.m.) and frequently enjoy some tapas and conversation in the early evening hours.  In Spain, people walk a lot.  An evening paseo, especially on warm summer nights, is quite enjoyable and healthy too!
