Nature

The Dominican Republic is rich of natural treasures.  Besides its beautiful beaches, there are impressive mountain ranges (the highest mountain is the Pico Duarte with 3,087 m), vast tropical forests and picturesque deserts.  Samaná, an enchanting province in the northeast of the island, offers a special attraction during the months of January and February when large groups of whales can be watched close to its shores.
