Corsicana has a population of 24, 485. It is the County Seat of Navarro County - founded in 1848 - it was named by Texas Revolution hero Jose Antonio Navarro after the Mediterranean island of Corsica, the birthplace of his parents. Discovered in 1894 by accident, the Corsicana oil field was the first commercial oil field in Texas. Collin Street Backery has been making fruitcakes since 1896.
