Greetings from Bellport, Long Island!
New York's state capital is Albany, its nickname is "The Empire State", and New York's state song is "I Love New York".  New York has three main rivers, the Hudson River, the Mohawk River, and the Genesee River.  New York has many state animals.  The state bird is the bluebird and the state mammal is the beaver.  The state fish is the Brook Trout and the state insect is the nine-spotted ladybug.  Other official state things, that are living, include the state fruit which is the apple, the state tree which is the sugar maple, and the state flower which is the rose.  The biggest city in New York state is New York City, and the six states that border New York are Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont.  All together, there are 62 counties in New York state.  If you were to put all fifty states in alphabetical order, New York would be the 32nd one.  Our school website is www.southcountry.org/MIDDLESCHOOL/bmsindex.htm  We hope you enjoyed learning about New York.
